Really inspiring start to your remodeling journey, Joshua! I love how you’ve broken down the project into concrete steps — demoing, rethinking room layouts, and visualizing how that basement could transform from underused space into something warm and functional. Watching someone take on not just physical work but also the creative process is always motivating.

If you ever want professional help — whether it’s custom built-ins, plumbing or layout design — I offer full remodeling services. You can see examples of my past work at https://1homebuilders.com (feel free to reach out if you want to collaborate or get a quote).

Embarking on a remodeling journey resembles the beginning of a new chapter brimming with aspirations, dust, and wonderful surprises. It is the point where vision converges with action, and each minor alteration conveys a promise—turning a house into the home you have always envisioned.

Good luck. I did a kitchen and a bathroom and yes it was too much but it eventually got done.

An order of operations step can be found here: https://blog.lostartpress.com/2024/01/30/kitchen-renovation-getting-started-order-of-work/

Generally I would do rough framing and then plumbing because there can be some large pipes that aren't flexible in their placement. Then HVAC if you're doing that, then electrical which can be worked around the other items.

So yes, rough framing I would do next, just keep in mind where your devices and fixtures and penetrations will go. Some walls may benefit from being 2x6 to have more space inside for utilities.

How high is your ceiling? I want to renovate my basement but the 7 foot high ceiling is limiting.

Thanks! The ceiling is 8 feet high, so comfortable. I probably will start cutting into the concrete this weekend to place the shower drain. Then I'll start putting into the framing for the new walls and partitions and duct soffits. I need to move some plumbing and wiring and remove a little more drywall in a few spots. So, that's probably the next few weekends.
