Remembering the road, day 14
I applaud those who write travel blogs and keep up the quantity and quality throughout the trip. As I look back on our cross-country adventure, one thing that stands out is that my posts got shorter and shorter as the trip progressed, as you'll see in this installment of Remembering the road...
Day 14
The Cowboy Junkies were indeed anti-Vegas, as their lead singer herself pointed out. "I don't get it," she said to the crowd, most of whom, ironically, cheered.
Anyway, today we pretty much just hung out. I took my two nephews to a video game place where we could play unlimited games for two hours. My nephew Sammy was great at this one martial arts game where you had to do the moves you wanted the video game player to make... jumps, running, kicks, punches, etc. Quite a workout! Anyway, being the energetic little boy that he his, he was great... beating everyone including the computer.
The same building also houses two "brand" stores... M&Ms and Coca-Cola. You can get any color M&M imaginable, and pretty much anything ever created with the Coca-Cola logo on it. Both were filled to the gills with products and people. Cyn, my sister-in-law Sue, and my niece Jane checked them out.
Amusing anecdote... some friends of my brother said they sent their kids to day care here in the hotel. And what did they do at day care? Why learn poker, craps, and blackjack of course! Today's kids, tomorrow's gamblers!
After spending some time relaxing in and beside the pool, and then grabbing dinner, we tried to win back some money in the casino. Slots and video poker helped us make a small dent, and Cyn got lucky at Roulette, and then I managed to make headway at the blackjack table until we decided we were pushing our luck. In all, we made back about half of what we had lost, ending our Vegas expedition on an up note, casino-wise.
So early tomorrow we flee Vegas and head east for the first time in two weeks. It's back to natural wonders instead of those crafted from neon, and we're ready for the change.
